How to Apply for Help to Buy Shared Ownership & Rental Schemes

Apply by registering your details on line here or contact us and we'll send you an application pack.  Please note registering does not mean you have applied for a specific property, it means you have registered for the Help to Buy Shared Ownership/Rental Schemes and will be contacted by the Help to Buy Agent (Help to Buy South) to confirm your eligibility.

For details of how to apply for the Help to Buy Equity Loan scheme click here.

After assessing your application, we will notify you within four working days of your eligibility.

Housing associations/developers will have access to your application and may contact you directly with details of their schemes and properties and will arrange viewings, subject to eligibility.  Applicants that are eligible will be prioritised depending on current housing situations and needs, and the level of demand.

In the meantime, you can also look for a property using our Find a Property search function on our website. You can find out more information by contacting the housing association/developer directly, however, based on the information you gave us on your application, housing associations/developers may send you details on properties that are of interest to you. You may also be invited to attend open days/evenings, Help to Buy shows and events, so it is important that you keep us updated with any changes to your personal details eg address/income.

When you have found a property, an interview will be carried out by the housing association to fully explain the scheme and the purchase/rental process.

If you are buying a property, you should obtain independent financial advice and also appoint a solicitor. If you are renting, you will need to demonstrate you can afford the rent whilst still being able to save for a deposit.

The length of time people are registered with Help to Buy South before they buy/rent can vary depending on individuals circumstances and on demand for properties.

Once all the legal or tenancy requirements are complete and a date is set for you to collect the keys, you can move in to your new home!

Our guide to What Happens Next is available to download.  This will also provide you with all the details once you are registered and tells you all you need to know about what happens next.
